Thursday, Room 121, all day (general goodbye post)

Xander's already handwavily sent out e-mails letting people know his new cellphone number if they didn't have it already, and his UC Sunnydale e-mail address, and... when he's leaving. Which he finally has to say 'tomorrow morning' about instead of 'Friday' because they're one and the same.

Now... he's still packing. Posters, folders, last-minute items and just stuff he wanted to leave up for as long as possible to make the room acknowledge that for now, he still lives here. Every so often he and Bridge are taking a break to look at pictures or watch a dvd, because at this point he's on the flipside of where he was yesterday: if he packs too fast, the room'll be empty, and Xander can't quite take that, not yet.

You can't really say Jeremiah's taking a break; he'd have to have been working in the first place for that to be true. He's just going back and forth between supervising the packing and supervising the loafing.

The door is open. Xander's yearbook is on the desk next to Jeremiah, for anyone who feels like signing it.

"He's coming with." Xander looked over towards Jeremiah's tank. "Willow swears she's got the color-change thing worked out of the portal spell, and he did make it home and back over Christmas without a problem."

Rory crossed over and gave Jeremiah a little wave before setting Yoda down beside the tank. "Good. Otherwise we might need to create a home for displaced reptiles and amphibians. I figured Yoda and Vladdie might want to say bye, or something."

"Well yeah - I mean after you've been balancinated together, there's an unbreakable bond!" Xander nodded and popped open the top of Jeremiah's tank, pulling the frog out and placing him on the desk.

Jeremiah brribbited questioningly. He might have been saying 'play now?' or possibly 'what's the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?'

Yoda looked about as interested as he always did.

Which wasn't a whole lot.

"So you're going to keep in touch, right?" Rory asked Xander while Vladdie's attention was occupied with his tail.

Xander nodded. "Got a handy-dandy Bridge-spankified phone and everything. And e-mail."

"And you'll call all by yourself without us having to do all the work and call you and be all, 'Xander, what are you doing?' right?" she checked. "I want it to be more like," she affected a deeper voice that sounded...nothing like Xander, "'Oh hey Rory, I'm Xander and I'm calling all by myself to check how you are and let you know about my exciting college life!'"

"You forgot to include the sound of something trying to eat everybody on campus in the background," Xander said. "It goes kinda like... grrrrr, arrrrgh."

"Your campus or mine?" Rory asked thoughtfully. "'Cause I can call when there's like, an invasion of electrified kittens or something, and make them yowl into the phone for you to hear."

"Would electrified kittens want to eat everybody?" Xander asked thoughtfully. "Or would they just complain about being in a box and start zapping each other til somebody let 'em out to play?"

"See, they're crafty," Rory said. "What they do is they sit there looking all cute and friendly, and then you pick them up, and they zap you! And you have really bad hair as a result."

Rory tilted her head. "Awwwwwwww! They could sit on his head and snuggle down in his hair!"

"And electrocute his fingers when he does that hair-check thing with his hand that he always does," Xander said, somewhat cheered up by the thought.

"That's sad," Rory said woefully. "I'll send you an electro-kitty in a special rubber suit and inside a special box so it won't hurt you. Plus, kitten in a little suit. Doesn't get much cuter."

"I'm not sure they'd let it live in the dorms at UC Sunnydale," Xander said. "Though I guess it could always be a sekrit ninja electro-kitty and hide under the bed whenever anybody came in like Miss Kitty Fantastico except for it wouldn't suddenly disappear and never get mentioned again until it's used as a punchline for a joke about crossbows WTF JOSS WTF."

"It would be a ninja cat, yes," Rory assured him. "And maybe if I found a big enough box, I could send you a Rory for a weekend or something."

"That wouldn't have to be a really big box at all," Xander pointed out. "Bigger than a kitten box, but still pretty wee."

"Yeah, still wee, but it would have to have airholes and room for a thermos and stuff," she agreed. "But once she got there, the Rory would probably be very quiet and small and not take up much room at all. She would just tidy things and keep everyone cheery and do research. They're very useful creatures to have around."

"As long as you don't run out of coffee," Xander pointed out. "Then they get scary."

"Well, yes," Rory agreed. "But generally they're very small and sweet-natured and should be allowed to visit as often as possible."

She frowned. "Xanders are welcome to visit here, too, you know."

"I think I have to actually attend some classes," he said. "I kind of got in the habit while I was here. It's weird."

Rory hugged him tight. "And see this is where if you had a big long coat or a robe like other people who were hard to say goodbye to, I'd try to hide inside of it. But I could probably fit in a suitcase! I could help with homework and froggiesit while you're at class."
